Beach vacation

Charlie spent a week in Manzanita, a small seaside town in Oregon coast. We decided to rent a vacation home rather than staying in a hotel because Charlie tends to cry when he is left alone in unfamiliar places.

When we stayed in a Westin Hotel in Seattle, we were told that if Charlie barks and someone complains, we would be responsible for paying for the guest's expenses at the hotel. We ended up taking him to a doggy daycare during the day, and he came with us everywhere we went in the evening. This meant we couldn't go to any restaurants at night, and we had takeouts every night. This time around, we wanted to have a bit more freedom, so we decided to stay in a cottage where no one is likely to complain about a barking dog.

It worked out really well. It was very comfortable and relaxing--more so than staying in a hotel room. To our surprise, Charlie didn't bark when we left him alone, perhaps because the place reminded him of our home.

Charlie walked along the beach everyday, and he loved it! To his delight, quite a bit of people walked their dogs off leash, so he got the chance to play with some dogs. We initially kept him on leash because we weren't sure if other dogs were friendly. After watching many dogs nicely greeting and playing with other dogs, we let him join the fun.
