Fall Hike

These days Charlie loves playing in the leaves and finding pieces of wood to carry during his hikes.  When he has something in his mouth, he walks proudly, with his "champion" gait...the bigger the stick, the more pompous his walk, as if he imagines himself at a dog show.

One of the bizarre things he likes to do is roll around on the ground during his hikes.  He usually does it when he smells something interesting, like a dead bird.  As he's walking normally along the path, he suddenly starts rolling on the ground like he's possessed. Apparently many dogs exhibit this type of behavior, but no one knows for sure why they do it.  Some theorize that it's a genetic trait that comes from a desire to show potential mates that their territory is rich in prey.  Charlie, however, does it because he's nuts.

Ooh look, deer shit...I must roll in it.
